Bears to Brag About!

Congratulations to Ms. Zuilhoff for being named the October Teacher of the Month. Ms. Zuilhoff teaches Biology in our Science Department and is doing a fantastic job as a first year teacher and coach! Way to go Ms. Z !!!

Academic All-District: Congratulations to the following varsity football players for being named Academic All District: Luke Coleman, Jordan Hood, Alex Nunn, Dillon Haas, Hunter Logeman, Caleb Campbell, Will Reynolds, Cameron McLeod, Keaton Bussell, Dalton Niesner, Jackson Hendrix, Wesley May, Josh Whitlock, Quentin Edmiston, Ryan Johnson, Aidan Morgensteren, and Jody Miller.

The Montgomery High School Choir Program had a great night last night at the Pre-Area audition. A process that began back in September with over 900 region students ended last night with five students selected per voice part. Montgomery High School Choir was fortunate enough to have 5 students advance to the final round of the All-State Choir auditions and 2 alternates. This is a new record for the Montgomery High School Choir Department. These students will compete in the final round in January to become members of the Texas All State Choir. Congratulations to alternates Kenton Hignett and Melanie McCreary, and a huge congratulations and good luck at your next audition to Adam Wylie, Katie Wallace, Tyler Hermes, Emily LeBlanc, and Jennifer Mejia.

JROTC: Led by the stupendous efforts of Terry Nicks, Ashlee Streett and Daniela Taylor, Montgomery JROTC took first place overall for the second year in a row at the Aransas Pass Field Meet in November. Teams finished 1st in Academics, and the Obstacle Course and second in Orienteering. Individual medals were earned by Terry Nicks for 3rd place in Academics, Emma Taylor for 1st Place in the Combat Fitness Test and Makayla Gudelman for 3rd place in the Combat Fitness Test.

Our winners for the Class of 2020 Generation Texas CHALLENGE are Kenzie Spreen and Emma Sears! Kenzie found a senior who completed a college application AND FAFSA for a chance to enter the gift card drawing! These two students need to come by the College and Career Center on Monday, Dec. 5th for their gift cards! Congrats!

The Montgomery Lady Bear Varsity Gold team finished 2nd yesterday @ The Magnolia West Invitational led by Junior Reagan Deaton's 83 and Sophomore MCKAYLIE Self's 85, the gold team also had great play from Bree Mask, Meagan Pistone, Ellie Hadley. The JV Purple team also played and finished in 8th place led by Olivia Hattersley's 100, also playing well were Kristen Maray, Cricket Heaton, and Emily Epps. Great job Ladies!

Two weeks ago, Halena Rahmaan raced at the Nike South Cross Country Regional. She finished 5th out of the 5 individual spots that qualify for Nike Nationals in Portland Oregon, where she competed this past Saturday, Dec. 3rd. Halena finished 133rd out of 199 runners in a grueling muddy and hilly race. Congrats on an outstanding season.

The Montgomery High School Troupe of the International Thespian Society held its induction of new members on Thursday, December 1st. The Thespian Society is a worldwide organization that honors youth who take an interest in and support their local high school theatres. Our local chapter, Troupe #5986 was chartered at the beginning of the New Year. To be eligible for induction, students must log in at least 100 hours in the theatre department, have been involved in at least two productions, and or been involved in at least two technical aspects of a production. Our new Thespian Inductees are: Joshua Bullard, Tyler Childers, Christopher Clark, Casey Cramer, Dawson Dickey, Dillon Dickey, Malerie Dozier, Myckah Finn, Hunter Johnson, Spencer Johnson, Samuel Irving, Lauren Maciariello, Tony Piccirilli, Jack Russell, Andrew Steward, Colton Taylor, Natalie Wagner, Justin Wiley, Kayla Williamson

The MHS Exam Exemption Policy is designed to reward students for good grades, near-perfect attendance, and good behavior throughout the year. The following criteria, similar to other high–performing high schools, were developed to encourage behaviors that lead to student success in high school and beyond. Please make sure that if you have any unclears please see Mr. Lopez or Mrs. Coleman in B228 to avoid any problems with exempting your finals. You will NOT exempt if you are unclear. Important deadlines for meeting the exemption criteria (remember – there are no exceptions to the exemption criteria):
  • You must have no outstanding obligations!! This includes fines, textbooks, parking, online registration, or owed detentions!! These must be cleared up by December 5th in order to exempt
  • You can have no more than 4 absences per class and NO Unexcused absences. Please check your attendance now to clear up any discrepancies. The deadline to clear up absences is also December 5th
  • Again, no changes will be made after December 5th!! Don’t let the deadline sneak up and lose your chance to exempt your finals!!

Want to get jump start to your holiday shopping? On October 21, at the Montgomery vs College Park home football game, visit the Kendra Scott Pop-Up Jewelry Store at Bear Stadium. 

Shopping will be available from 5:30 – 7:30 pm, so stop by and SHOP before the game! Why drive to the Woodlands when you can get Holiday shopping done right here in Montgomery! Kendra Scott Jewelry will also be set up outside the gates of the stadium, so stop by whether or not you’ll be attending the game. Only credit cards or gift cards can be used to purchase jewelry. No cash or checks! This event is hosted with MHS and 20% of the proceeds will go back to MHS PTO.

Battle of 105

Montgomery Bears vs Conroe Tigers
Thursday Oct 6 at 7pm (Buddy Moorehead Stadium, Conroe)

The Montgomery Bears will take on the Conroe Tigers at Conroe High School. To commemorate this historic showdown, the MHS Student Council has challenged Conroe High School to a competition as well. We will compete with CHS to see who can raise the most money for a charitable cause. 

During lunch this week, Student Council members will be selling spirit links for 25 cents each. Each spirit link will contribute to a giant purple and gold paper chain that represents our contribution. 

There will also be a limited edition t-shirt sold on Tuesday and Wednesday this week during lunches for $10. All the proceeds raised by both schools will go to the local YMCA to provide sports scholarships for kids who cannot afford to play sports. We appreciate your contribution to this worthy cause.

Bear Backers Golf Tournament

One of the biggest Bear Backer fundraisers of the year is the annual 
Bear Backer All-Sports Scholarship Golf Tournament.

The tournament will be a Shotgun Scramble format beginning at 1:00 p.m. Registration starts at 11:45. Following play there will be an awards presentation, dinner, and silent auction in the clubhouse.

Last year, this community-wide event generated funds more than $20,000 to provide college scholarships to Montgomery High School’s outstanding senior student athletes in ALL sports! We know that with the support of the Montgomery community as well as the Greater Houston Area business leaders, parents, loved ones and patrons from the past tournaments we can exceed this amount in 2016!  Thank you in advance for your consideration in donating to this very special event. The Bear Backer Booster Club of Montgomery ISD is a non-profit organization that was established in 1978 as an All Sports Booster Club. The Booster Club is formed by school patrons to help enrich the school’s participation in interschool athletic activities. This club helps with funding for athletic scholarships, improvements to facilities, championship banners, signs and end of season team banquets for athletes.

Practice Redesigned SAT Test at MHS-September 24th

What’s the difference in the PSAT/NMSQT(Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) taken during school hours on Oct. 19th and the Practice SAT offered through Princeton at MHS?

The PSAT/NMSQT is a National test for grades 9th through 11th grade students provided through the College Board and measures the reading, writing and math skills for college readiness. For 11th grade students, it is a National Merit Qualifier. Test scores are sent directly to you several weeks later.

The Practice SAT offered by Princeton is a full length practice test given under the same testing conditions as the actual exam. You will receive your personalized score report, only one week later, that shows your strengths and weaknesses. You will learn about the endurance and skill needed to score high on the actual SAT test

Homecoming Week: September 12-17

Homecoming Dance: The Homecoming Dance will be Saturday September 17th from 8-11 pm in the cafeteria. Tickets are $25/each and will be sold next week. On Monday, Seniors may buy tickets during main campus lunches. On Tuesday, tickets will be sold during all lunches on both campuses to students with cash/check. The remainder of the tickets will be sold online through the mySchoolBucks School Store. There are a limited number of tickets for non MHS guests so if you plan to bring a guest that is not an MHS student, you must purchase these tickets on Monday if you are a senior or on Tuesday for non-seniors. Please bring exact change to speed up the ticket purchase process

Back to School Online Forms

Parents of new and returning students will be completing Back-to-School registration forms online this school year. Please access the forms here:
You will need to log into your parent portal account – where you will receive a pop-up prompting you to complete the Registration forms.

If you do not have a TxConnect Parent Portal account – you will need to create one through this link: The email associated with your Parent Portal account MUST be listed in our student’s contact data. Once you have created your account, and verified your email address, you will need your student’s parent portal ID which was sent home in a letter with your student’s final report card last year.

Please complete all of the forms listed under View/Edit forms for each of your students. If all of your children are not listed – please add them. (You will need their portal ID…which you can get from the campus registrar.)

Some helpful notes:
  • Registration – please make any changes necessary to the information by selecting the “edit” button to the left. You will need to provide the campus registrar proof of residency if you make any changes to your physical address. 
  • Contacts – there is a drop‐down arrow (selection box) for each contact we have on file for your student‐‐‐ please be sure to select each contact and verify that the information we have on file is correct. Make any necessary changes by selecting the “edit’ button. To add a contact, simply select the “add additional record” tab. You can delete a contact that is not Priority 1 by selecting the delete button at the bottom. Priority 1 contact cannot be deleted. 
  • Forms – please pull up and complete each form, and be sure to hit submit with electronic signature.
If you encounter any problems, please contact the campus registrar.

Once the school year begins, we will remove all 2015-16 members and emails from our PTO database and begin the year with our new PTO member list. It is important at Schedule Pickup that you join our Montgomery High School PTO for the 2016-17 school year in order to continue receiving our weekly email communication. Your $5 Annual Membership includes weekly MHS eNews – a service to keep parents informed of the latest academic, athletic, collegiate, and social activities happening at MHS. Back to School Teacher Breakfast:

MHS PTO is hosting a "Back to School Breakfast" for Teachers and Staff beginning at 9:30am on Thursday, August 18th in the main campus cafe. Parent assistance is needed. We are asking parents to provide a variety of food items and to serve as volunteers in setting up and serving breakfast. We will be giving away door prize drawings during the breakfast. Please consider contributing a door prize gift basket, gift cards, services offered, etc. and help us make this event a success and start our 2016-2017 school year off right! MHS Awards and Scholars Recognition

Senior Scholars Night is scheduled for May 16th. A reception will take place in the Montgomery High School Cafeteria at 6:00pm with the presentation of awards following at 6:30pm. in the Montgomery High School Auditorium. Senior NHS Collaring ceremony will precede the scholars ceremony beginning at 5:30pm. PLEASE NOTE: Any college scholarship award needs to be turned into the Guidance Office as soon as it is received. Written verification is necessary in order for students to be recognized.

The MHS Academic Awards will take place at MHS on Wednesday, May 18. More details to come.
  • Last names A-K will be held at 8am 
  • Last Names L-Z will be held at 9:45am. 

Student Physicals

If you are planning on participating or trying-out for Band, Cheer, Belles, JROTC or Athletics next year you will need to make sure you have an athletic physical on file before you can participate or try-out. Athletic Physicals will be held on Wednesday April 27th from 3-5:15 pm in the High School Performance gym. You may pick up a packet from your coach or sponsor, the Athletic Trainers office or the Ninth grade & High School front office before hand or when you arrive for your physical. Please make sure that the entire packet is filled out including student and parent/guardian signatures. The cost is $20.00 per person CASH ONLY!

The 2016 MHS Prom

The 2016 MHS Prom will be held on Saturday, April 30 at La Torretta from 8pm until midnight. The theme this year is Le Grand Cirque Vintage Carnival. Tickets this week are $85 and will be sold April 25-28, at all lunches for Cash ONLY--no checks accepted. No tickets will be sold after Thursday, April 28. Don't miss out, tickets are limited, so get yours before they sell out. NO tickets will be sold the day of the prom. Click here for more information.

AP Testing

The AP Examinations are administered each year in May and represent the culmination of college-level work in a given discipline in a secondary school setting. Rigorously developed by committees of college and AP high school faculty, the AP Exams test students' ability to perform at a college level. Click here to view the MHS testing dates calendar.
